Attorney Bio

Kia Chandler, Esq. is the Managing Attorney of The Chandler Law Firm, LLC, where she focuses her practice on education law, administrative law, employment matters, investigations, and dispute resolution. She serves as hearing examiner for several boards of education in Maryland, presiding over quasi-judicial administrative hearings and issuing written decisions in accordance with applicable state and federal law.

In addition to her neutral work, Ms. Chandler advises clients on labor and employment matters, workplace and Title IX investigations, policy compliance, and dispute resolution. She has served as outside counsel to Maryland school districts, advising on labor and employment matters, to include collective bargaining, advising on employee and student discipline, Title IX, civil rights matters, FERPA and MPIA compliance, policy development, and representing the district in administrative hearings and arbitrations. Her work regularly includes interpreting and applying federal and state laws and regulations, including Title IX, the ADA, FMLA, IDEA, collective bargaining agreements, and related regulatory frameworks.

Prior to returning to private practice, Ms. Chandler served as Assistant General Counsel for Salisbury University, advising on higher education law, civil rights compliance, student matters, and policy development. She has also practiced in administrative and civil litigation and co-taught School Law and Policy at The George Washington University.

Ms. Chandler is admitted to practice in Maryland and Colorado and before the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. She is an active member of the American Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association, and the Anne Arundel County Bar Association.
